Salzburg toppled Feyenoord in Europa League thriller

Feyenoord were defeated 2-1 on home soil by FC Salzburg in the first leg of their Europa League round of 32 clash on Thursday.

Noah Okafor put the visitors ahead in the 31st minute before Santiago Gimenez leveled the scores just five minutes later. Fernando scored the winning goal for Salzburg in the 84th minute.

Feyenoord started the game brightly and had a few chances to take the lead in the opening stages. However, it was Salzburg who took the lead against the run of play when Okafor fired home a low shot from just inside the area in the 31st minute.

Feyenoord responded well to going behind and drew level just five minutes later. Gimenez was on hand to tap home from close range after good work from Orkun Kokcu.

The second half was a more even affair, with both sides creating chances. However, it was Salzburg who took the lead in the 84th minute. Fernando was on hand to score from close range after a great cross from Benjamin Sesko.

Feyenoord pushed for an equalizer in the closing stages, but they were unable to find a way past the Salzburg defense.
