United ISD Closes Schools for Election Day for the First Time
Students to Get Day Off to Allow Poll Workers to Prepare for Election
United Independent School District (UISD) is giving students and staff a day off on Election Day, November 8, 2023. This is the first time the school district has closed schools for the election.
The decision was made to allow poll workers to prepare for the election and to ensure that schools are available for use as polling places.
Superintendent Explains the Decision
"We are excited to be able to provide this opportunity for our students and staff," said UISD Superintendent Roberto Alonzo. "This is a great way to show our support for the democratic process and to ensure that our schools are available for use as polling places."
Alonzo also noted that the day off will give students and staff an opportunity to participate in the election process.
