"Saxon Separatists": Raid against alleged right-wing terrorists
Federal Prosecutor's Office suspects preparation of serious acts of violence
13 objects in Saxony, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg searched
The Federal Prosecutor's Office in Karlsruhe is investigating preparations for serious acts of violence against the state by members of the so-called "Saxon Separatists". As part of the investigation, 13 properties in Saxony, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg were searched on Wednesday morning. The searches are aimed at securing evidence and arresting suspects, a spokesman for the Federal Prosecutor's Office said. According to information from the Federal Prosecutor's Office, 51 suspects aged 21 to 64 are being investigated.
The "Saxon Separatists" are said to have formed in early 2022 with the aim of overthrowing the existing constitutional order in Germany and establishing an independent "Free State of Saxony". According to the Federal Prosecutor's Office, the group is said to have been divided into eight regional groups, each of which was responsible for recruiting new members, procuring weapons and preparing for attacks on state institutions.
As part of the investigation, the Federal Prosecutor's Office is investigating whether the "Saxon Separatists" had acquired weapons and explosives. The group is also said to have planned to attack the Saxon State Parliament and other government buildings. According to the Federal Prosecutor's Office, there is no evidence so far that the accused had already taken concrete steps to carry out their plans.
The investigation into the "Saxon Separatists" is being carried out in close cooperation with the Saxon State Criminal Police Office and other state authorities. The operation on Wednesday morning involved more than 600 police officers.
The Federal Prosecutor's Office emphasized that the investigation into the "Saxon Separatists" is still ongoing and that further details will be released as they become available.
