Rangers not in Champions League to just make up the numbers

Steven Gerrard's side face a huge test against Liverpool at Ibrox on Tuesday

The Gers are determined to make an impact on Europe's elite club competition

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has warned his players that they are not in the Champions League just to make up the numbers.

The Gers face a huge test against Liverpool at Ibrox on Tuesday night, but Gerrard is confident that his side can cause an upset.

“We're not here to just make up the numbers,” Gerrard said. “We want to make an impact on this competition.

“We know it's going to be a tough test, but we're confident in our abilities.

“We're going to go out there and give it our all, and we'll see what happens.”

Rangers have a proud history in the Champions League, reaching the final in 1972 and the semi-finals in 1993.

Gerrard is hoping to add to that legacy by leading the Gers to a famous victory over Liverpool.

“We're going to give it our best shot,” Gerrard said.

“We're going to go out there and try to win the game.”

Rangers will be without a number of key players for the match against Liverpool, including Alfredo Morelos and Kemar Roofe.

However, Gerrard is confident that his side can still get a result.

“We've got a good squad,” Gerrard said.

“We've got players who can hurt Liverpool.

“We're going to go out there and give it our all, and we'll see what happens.”
