Police seize “artillery gun” on Autobahn 44
Police in North Rhine-Westphalia have seized an artillery cannon on the A44 motorway near Kassel. The cannon was mounted on a trailer and was being transported by a 52-year-old man from the Netherlands. The police stopped the man because he was driving too slowly, and they discovered the cannon during a search of the vehicle. The man told the police that he had bought the cannon in Poland and was planning to take it to the Netherlands. The police have confiscated the cannon and are investigating the man on suspicion of violating the War Weapons Control Act.
The War Weapons Control Act prohibits the manufacture, possession, or transfer of certain weapons, including artillery pieces. The law was enacted in 1962 in response to the threat of nuclear war. The law is designed to prevent the spread of weapons that could be used to cause mass destruction.
The police are investigating how the man obtained the cannon and what he planned to do with it. The man is currently in custody, and the police are continuing their investigation.
