Poitiers: At Least Five Seriously Injured in Gang War
Five people were seriously injured in a gang war in Poitiers on Saturday night.
The victims, aged between 16 and 25, were attacked with knives and baseball bats in the city centre.
The incident happened at around 11pm on Saturday, 18th February, in the Place du Maréchal-Leclerc.
Police were called to the scene and found the victims lying on the ground with serious injuries.
The victims were taken to hospital, where they are being treated for their injuries.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
The incident is the latest in a series of gang-related attacks in Poitiers.
In January, two people were injured in a shooting in the city centre.
And in December, a man was stabbed to death in the city's Bellejouanne district.
Police are concerned about the increasing violence in Poitiers and are urging young people to stay away from gangs.
The mayor of Poitiers, Alain Claeys, has called for calm following the latest incident.
He said: "This violence is unacceptable and we will not tolerate it."
"We are working closely with the police to bring those responsible to justice."
"I urge all young people to stay away from gangs and to choose a path of peace and respect."
