New car parks - resistance is forming in Leverkusen against Bayer 04's plans
The plans of Bayer 04 Leverkusen to build new parking spaces on the Kurt-Rieß-Anlage are meeting with resistance from residents and the Leverkusen branch of the ADFC bicycle club.
The accusation: The club wants to seal over green spaces and thus destroy the habitat of numerous animal species.
Bayer 04 Leverkusen is planning to build 700 new parking spaces on the Kurt-Rieß-Anlage in order to relieve the parking situation around the BayArena on match days. However, the plans are meeting with resistance from residents and the Leverkusen branch of the ADFC bicycle club.
The opponents of the project criticize that the club wants to seal over green spaces and thus destroy the habitat of numerous animal species. They also fear that the traffic situation on the Kurt-Rieß-Anlage will worsen as a result of the new parking spaces.
Bayer 04 Leverkusen, on the other hand, argues that the new parking spaces are necessary to relieve the parking situation around the BayArena on match days. The club also points out that the new parking spaces will be built on an area that is already sealed.
The Leverkusen branch of the ADFC bicycle club has now announced that it will file a complaint against the city of Leverkusen's approval of the construction project. The ADFC argues that the city has not sufficiently examined the alternatives to the new parking spaces and that the project is therefore illegal.
The city of Leverkusen has not yet commented on the ADFC's announcement.
