Matt Fitzpatrick 'couldn't have done it without' Billy Foster as he seeks third Crans title

The Englishman leads by one shot with a round to go

Matt Fitzpatrick has praised the impact of his caddie Billy Foster after carding a second round of 66 to take a one-shot lead into the final day of the Omega European Masters.

The Englishman is seeking a third title at Crans-sur-Sierre and is one stroke ahead of Scotland's Robert MacIntyre.

Fitzpatrick, who also won the tournament in 2015 and 2017, said: "I couldn't have done it without Billy. He's been absolutely brilliant."

Foster, who has also caddied for Seve Ballesteros, Lee Westwood, and Sergio Garcia, has been working with Fitzpatrick since the start of the year.

Fitzpatrick added: "He's got so much experience and he knows this course like the back of his hand. He's been a great help to me this week."

The 28-year-old is looking to win his second title of the season after victory at the Andalucia Masters in April.

He said: "I'm in a good position going into the final day. I'm just going to try to stay patient and make as few mistakes as possible."

MacIntyre is Fitzpatrick's nearest challenger after a round of 67.

The Scot said: "I'm happy with my round today. I hit the ball well and made some good putts."

MacIntyre is looking to win his first European Tour title since the 2019 Italian Open.

He said: "I'm going to give it my all tomorrow and see what happens."

Other players in contention include England's Richard Bland and Sweden's Alexander Bjork.

Bland is two shots behind Fitzpatrick after a round of 68, while Bjork is a further shot back after a round of 69.
