John Paintsil: Ex-Fulham and West Ham defender in stable condition after being involved in car crash

Former Ghana international John Paintsil is in a stable condition in hospital after being involved in a car crash in his native country.

The 41-year-old, who played for Fulham and West Ham in the Premier League, was driving his car when it collided with a motorbike in the capital, Accra, on Thursday.

Paintsil was rushed to hospital, where he is said to be in a stable condition.

The extent of his injuries is not yet known, but it is understood that he is conscious and talking.

Paintsil, who also played for Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Tel Aviv in Israel, made over 100 appearances for Ghana and was part of the squad that reached the quarter-finals of the 2010 World Cup.

He retired from international football in 2013 and has since worked as a coach.
