Board's Decision Comes Amid Concerns About Leadership and Communication

The Grand Prairie Independent School District (GPISD) Board of Trustees has voted to place Superintendent Linda Ellis on administrative leave, effective immediately.

Investigation Launched Into Allegations of Bullying, Low Morale

According to a statement released by the district, the decision was made "after careful consideration of concerns raised by employees and community members."

The board has launched an independent investigation into allegations of bullying and low morale within the district under Ellis' leadership.

Ellis Hired in June 2023

Ellis, who was hired as superintendent in June 2023, had previously served as superintendent of the Mesquite Independent School District.

Her departure comes at a time when the district is facing financial challenges and declining enrollment.

Board Expresses Disappointment, Focus on District Stability

Board President Ron Franklin expressed disappointment in the situation but emphasized that the board's priority is to ensure stability and continuity for GPISD.

"We understand that this is a challenging time for our district," Franklin said. "We are committed to working with the community to address the concerns that have been raised."

Assistant Superintendent Serving as Interim

Assistant Superintendent Kevin Melton has been appointed interim superintendent effective immediately.

The board has not yet announced a timeline for the investigation or when a permanent superintendent will be named.
