Football rankings: North Gwinnett up to No. 4

Buford, Grayson, Collins Hill, and Mill Creek make up the state's top five

North Gwinnett is now ranked No. 4 in the state in the latest Class 7A football rankings, released by the Georgia High School Football Daily on Monday.

The Bulldogs (4-0) moved up two spots after a 42-14 win over Mill Creek last week.

Buford (4-0) remains No. 1 in the state, followed by Grayson (4-0) and Collins Hill (4-0).

Mill Creek (3-1) dropped to No. 5 after the loss to North Gwinnett.

Other teams in the top 10 include: No. 6 Roswell (4-0), No. 7 Walton (4-0), No. 8 Marietta (3-1), No. 9 Archer (3-1), and No. 10 Johns Creek (3-1).

North Gwinnett's rise

North Gwinnett's rise to No. 4 is a testament to the Bulldogs' strong start to the season.

The Bulldogs have outscored their opponents 168-35 in four games this season.

North Gwinnett's defense has been particularly impressive, allowing just 8.8 points per game.

Buford, Grayson, Collins Hill remain strong

Buford, Grayson, and Collins Hill remain the top three teams in the state, and for good reason.

Buford has won four state championships in the past six years.

Grayson won the state championship in 2021.

Collins Hill is coming off a 14-0 season in 2021.

Mill Creek's loss

Mill Creek's loss to North Gwinnett was the Hawks' first of the season.

Mill Creek had been ranked No. 3 in the state before the loss.

The Hawks will look to rebound when they host Roswell on Friday.

Other teams to watch

Roswell, Walton, Marietta, Archer, and Johns Creek are all teams to watch in Class 7A.

Roswell is off to a 4-0 start this season and has a talented offense led by quarterback Robbie Roper.

Walton is also 4-0 and has a strong defense led by linebacker Donovan Green.

Marietta is 3-1 and has a talented running back in Justin Williams.

Archer is 3-1 and has a balanced offense led by quarterback AJ Swann.

Johns Creek is 3-1 and has a strong defense led by linebacker Jeremiah Alexander.
