Ajax would also like to keep Mazraoui until the end of the season, as sporting director Gerry Hamstra recently emphasized.
In an interview with "De Telegraaf", Hamstra described the speculation as "very premature". At the same time, however, he left a small back door open: "We know what our financial situation is and what the situation is regarding expiring contracts. But in January, we don't want to sell players who are important to us for a nice price." Hamstra's statement suggests that Ajax is not completely averse to a transfer of Mazraoui in the winter. However, it is important to note that it is only a small loophole. If Bayern really wants to sign Mazraoui, they will probably have to dig deep into their pockets.
The 24-year-old's contract with Ajax expires in the summer of 2022. If he does not extend his contract, he would be free to leave the club on a free transfer. However, Bayern would like to sign Mazraoui as early as possible in order to prevent other clubs from getting involved. The right-back position is still a problem area for Bayern. Benjamin Pavard, who is actually a central defender, is currently playing there. However, the Frenchman has not been able to fully convince in this position. Mazraoui, on the other hand, is a specialist in this position and would bring with him a lot of experience at the highest level.
In the current season, Mazraoui has made 15 appearances for Ajax in all competitions, scoring one goal and providing two assists. He was also part of the Moroccan national team that won the Africa Cup of Nations in February.
