Elsterwerda: Controlled explosion of a 250-kilogram aerial bomb from the Second World War
Evacuation of around 1,200 people - Defusing work lasted for hours
Biehla/Elsterwerda (dpa/sn) - An aerial bomb from the Second World War has been defused in Biehla near Elsterwerda in Brandenburg.
As the police announced on Tuesday evening, the evacuation of around 1,200 residents was necessary for the defusing work, which lasted several hours.
The 250-kilogram bomb was discovered during construction work in the eastern part of the town on Monday. A safety radius of 500 meters was set up around the site.
The evacuation began at 8:00 a.m. and was completed by 10:45 a.m. Around 100 emergency services were on duty.
The defusing work began at 12:30 p.m. and was completed around 4:30 p.m. The bomb was then transported away.
According to the police, there were no problems during the evacuation or the defusing work.
