Coldplay’s Chris Martin Performs Solo Surprise Gig in Melbourne

Martin Performs Intimate Set for Melbourne Audience

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin surprised fans with an intimate solo gig at Melbourne's Northcote Social Club on Tuesday night. The impromptu performance was announced just hours before the show, with tickets selling out within minutes.

Martin took to the stage at 9pm, armed with just his acoustic guitar and a setlist of Coldplay classics and covers. He opened with a stripped-back version of "Yellow," followed by "Paradise," "Fix You," and "A Sky Full of Stars."

Martin Dedicates Song to Late Michael Gudinski

In a touching moment, Martin dedicated a performance of "Strawberry Swing" to the late music industry legend Michael Gudinski. Gudinski, who passed away in March 2021, was a close friend and mentor to Martin and Coldplay.

"Michael was such a special person, and he meant so much to me and to Coldplay," Martin said. "We wouldn't be where we are today without him."

The intimate gig was a rare opportunity for fans to see Martin perform in a small, intimate setting. The setlist was a mix of fan favorites and deep cuts, with Martin also performing covers of songs by Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and John Lennon.

Martin Praises Melbourne's Music Scene

In between songs, Martin took the time to praise Melbourne's vibrant music scene. He said he had always loved playing in Melbourne and that the city had a special place in his heart.

"Melbourne is such a great music city," Martin said. "There's so much talent here, and the fans are always so passionate."

The surprise gig was a welcome treat for Coldplay fans in Melbourne, who have been eagerly awaiting the band's return to Australia. Coldplay is scheduled to perform two sold-out shows at Marvel Stadium on November 11 and 12.
