Vintage enthusiast Fabian Kahl presents a very special treasure at "Bares für Rares"
An original nurse's uniform jacket from the First World War impresses Horst Lichter and brings the seller a real profit
Treschklingen, March 23, 2023 - On the ZDF show "Bares für Rares," presenter Horst Lichter is amazed by a remarkable find by vintage enthusiast Fabian Kahl. Fabian brought along an original German nurse's uniform jacket from the First World War and the jacket was an immediate hit with the show's experts.
The nurse's jacket was made of a dark blue wool-gabardine mix and had a button placket and a small collar. Two pockets with flaps and a hook-and-loop closure are on the front sides. The jacket's shoulder straps also feature two small, decorative metal buttons. She immediately recognized the jacket as an original from the First World War, and then made an even more incredible discovery: The jacket still had the name of its original owner embroidered on the inside of the collar: Berta Reichenbach.
Horst Lichter was visibly impressed by the find and its excellent condition. "This is a really great piece of history," he said, who was curious about the jacket's origins. Fabian Kahl explained that he had found the jacket at a flea market and that he had immediately recognized its value as a collector's item. "It's hard to find such an original jacket in such good condition," he added.
In the expert appraisal, Dr. Heide Rezepa-Zabel then revealed more details about the jacket's history. "This jacket was worn by nurses during the First World War. It belonged to the field medical service and they provided care to wounded soldiers," she explained, who was able to accurately date the jacket to around 1916. She praised the jacket's "excellent condition" as truly exceptional.
In the dealer's room, there was a lively bidding war for the nurse's jacket. In the end, Fabian Kahl was able to sell the jacket for 450 euros to art dealer David Suppes. "I'm very happy with the price," said Fabian Kahl, who donated a portion of the proceeds to a charitable organization that supports veterans.
