Aachen: Man (60) Enters Germany With World War Cannon
Police Seize Illegal Weapon
Accused Faces Charges of Violating War Weapons Control Act
Aachen, Germany – A 60-year-old man was arrested in Aachen, Germany, for illegally importing a World War II-era cannon into the country. The man, whose name has not been released, was stopped by customs officials at the Aachen-West border crossing on January 10, 2023.
During a routine inspection of the man's vehicle, customs officials discovered the cannon hidden in the back of the vehicle. The cannon, a German 88mm Flak 36 anti-aircraft gun, is a prohibited weapon under the German War Weapons Control Act.
The man was arrested and charged with violating the War Weapons Control Act. He faces up to five years in prison if convicted.
The arrest comes amid growing concerns about the illegal trade in war weapons in Europe. In recent years, there have been several reports of people being arrested for trying to sell or possess illegal weapons, including machine guns, rocket launchers, and even tanks.
The German government has taken steps to crack down on the illegal trade in war weapons. In 2017, the government introduced new legislation that increased the penalties for violating the War Weapons Control Act.
The government has also increased its efforts to educate the public about the dangers of war weapons. In 2018, the government launched a public awareness campaign that warned people about the risks of buying or possessing illegal weapons.
Despite the government's efforts, the illegal trade in war weapons continues to be a problem in Europe. The arrest of the 60-year-old man in Aachen is a reminder of the dangers posed by these weapons.
